The maximum altitude we reach is Dolma-La pass (5600 meters) during second day of Kailash parikrama from Dirapuk 4900 meters to Juthulpuk 4760 meters. Second day of Kailash Parikrama is about 9 - 11 hours walking and total 23 kilometers.

Can we do Kailash Helicopter tour?

Kailash helicopter tour means not doing this tour entirely by Helicopter. Helicopters are only allow up to Nepal territory. From Kathmandu you can skip 6/7 hours mountain road by chartered Helicopter. Land of Tibet does not allow any helicopter flights, it is entirely driving. Do not make any confusion about landing the Helicopter nearby the Mansarovar Lake and Mount Kailash.

Is trip insurance compulsory for Kailash tour?

insurance for Kailash visa or for permit is not compulsory. It is only for your safety. In case of any emergency you can bill your extra expenses to insurance company. Any sickness in the altitude and rescue by driving down comes extra charges, in case of medical and hospital expenses that is also the extra cost from your tour cost. All these bills can claim to your insurance company if you secure travel insurance with your itinerary from your country.

Extra cost in this package is Lunch Dinner in Nepal, personal horse and helper during Kailash parikrama if you need, any tipping, your personal expenses and shopping.

What is the cost of personal horse and Helper for Kailash Parikrama?

Cost of personal horse and helper depends on local demand as per the peoples flow at current time. It normally cost Chinese yuen 3400, which is USD about 460 and it is for three days. This cost is not stable and fixed. Personal helper will carry your hand bag while you are on horse and walking together with you. You also have option not to hire horse or helper but walk yourself with your hand bag. Most of the goods from your big bag stay in our car in Darchen. Few of the your stuff will carry by Yak together with other group members. Hiring only a porter for your personal hang bag is also the option which cost USD 150 for 3 days.

What kind of foods you serve during Kailash overland tour?

Pure vegeterian foods, we serve during Kailash tour. Foods are from our own kitchen. Our professional kitchen team from Nepal prepare every day 3 times foods for you. Not only pure veg, we also can provide you vegan in demand. Foods when you are in Nepal is only provided breakfast in the Hotel. Lunch Dinner is extra from the cost. There are choices of restaurants in Kathmandu for this purpose.

What is the facilities of internet and telecommunication?

Wifi in the most of the Hotel in Kailash region is available. If it is important for you to have every time internet, better to buy a local sim card at your first day reaching in Tibetan town Kerung. Active internet data package in your local SIM. Google are band in Kailash. You can download VPN to use regular browser.

How do we manage emergency evacuation in Kailash ?

Since Helicopter charter is not allow, bringing down to the lower altitude by driving is the only one option in case of emergency evacuation due to altitude sickness. Good hospital facilities are only available in Taklakot which is nearby Lake Mansarovar. Helicoper rescue are possible after crossing Tibet immigration at Nepali site.

What is the currency I should bring for Kailash overland tour?

Chinese Yuan is only the currency you should bring during Kailash tour. Since it is remote area, other currency, banking or your card payment is impossible. You can exchange Chinese currency from the bank of any money exchange in Nepal if you are travelling Kailash from Nepal. Or have option to exchange it in border site with any other currency. There are ATM facilities in Kerung and Saga town to withdraw Chinese currency from your card. Entering Kailash region from Lhasa have good option to take currency from ATM or exchange your other currency from the bank or from money ex-changer.

Do I need to bring all the equipment from my place?

equipment for Kailash overland tour is not compulsory to bring from your home country. You can buy all the goods in Kathmandu Nepal or in Lhasa. Kerung the Tibetan town also provide lots of shops to buy warm clothes for your tour. Trekking sticks you may need during your Kailash Parikrama is suggest to buy in Darchen. Bringing all the way till there may damage by the time of using.

Kailash Overland Tour is now operating via Kerung boarder. Nepal Tibet boarder Kerung is about 140 kilometer via Kathmandu – Galchhi – Betrawati – Dhunche - Syabrubesi - Rasuwa Gadi road. Nepal Highland Treks is operating private and group joining Kailash Overland Tour from its best season of May to September months. Total tour plan is for 16 days which including days in Kathmandu for the final visa preparation, your arrival and departure days. We spend 10 nights 11 days around Mount Kailash and Lake Manasarovar. Take holy bath and involve in ritual function at bank of Lake Manasarovar. Take good snap of South, North, east and west face of Kailash. Involve 3 days Kailash Kora and return same way back to Kathmandu.

As per the rules from month of April 2023, Kailash tour permit and visa procedure need minimum four peoples to enter from Nepal. Although trip visa and permit can manage even for 2 peoples a group by adding 2 more our staffs. Kailash permit and visa is two different papers. Once Tibet permit is approved, we should submit your original passport with the permits in Chinese embassy Kathmandu to get Kailash visa. Both permit and visa does not stamp in your passport but it is in paper. Permit issue is with your passport copy but to issue Kailash visa, your original passport most submit. All these formalities we do care. It is suggest you to stay around Kathmandu valley during the visa applying period in case of any emergency inquiring from the embassy for you.

Acclimatization in the altitude during Kailash overland tour

11 days program only for the Kailash overland tour is designed with enough acclimatization days on the way. First day we reach at Nepal Tibet border and overnight at the altitude of about 1100 meters. Second day is only an hour drive and reach at 2700 meters altitude to overnight. We spend there the full day with small hiking reaching till the altitude of 3000 meters. Third day of the tour reach at 4450 meters which is crossing through 5000 meters passes. Reaching Saga town 4450 meters gain 1750 meters altitude in one day from Kerung. Reaching saga to overnight is only one option since there is no any accommodation on the way between Kerung and Saga. We have two nights stay here which is better way to get your body acclimatized. Another two days will be in the similar altitude at Lake Mansarovar and Darchen. Till Darchen town (Base camp of Mt Kailash), every one get fit to digest higher altitude during Kailash Kora overnight at 4900 Dirapuk and 4760 meters Juthulpuk crossing 5600 meters Dolma-La pass.

Foods in the Kailash trip

Our package is based on group and in full board based. Three times foods every day is including in the cost in Kailash region. Food items are Indian style in Indian origin group and foreigner style in foreigner group. Foods are all veg during the pilgrimage trip. Our own Nepali staffs from Kathmandu will prepare foods entire trip. In the case of small foreigner group, we feed all the Chinese / Tibetan foods from local restaurants.

Accommodation in Nepal and Kailash

5 nights’ accommodation in Kathmandu Nepal as per itinerary is in 3 star category hotel on twin sharing room. Accommodation in entire Kailash region is in Hotels for 7 nights and in group sharing room local guest houses for 3 nights. The best availalbe hotels at Kerung, Saga and Darchen. 3 nights’ accommodation in Manasarovar, Derapuk and Juthulpuk do not have options other then local guest houses. Only basic guest houses are available here in group sharing.

Acclimatization

Kathmandu is about 1,400 miters you reach first day. After spending days in Kathmandu trip reaches at Kerung (Nepal Tibet boarder) which is 2,700 miters (Tibet site). Everyone is staying there for 1 night, but reaching there at the morning time after crossing the border and doing some fitness activities like hiking and walking. This is much helpful to acclimatize your body in high altitude. Next day saga is 4,550 miter altitude and we are going to spend 2 nights there just to adjust your body in the altitude. We stay almost in same altitude for another 3 nights which is again more acclimatized and helpful to reach 5,645 miters Dolma La pass during Kailash Kora.

Booking procedure and documents

Booking is accepted until one month before from departure date. We need at least six month validity passport scan copy by email and trip confirmation amount of 20 percent from total tour cost. Additional documents are your pp size digital picture. We also send you a form by email to get your personal details.

Payment policy

USD 500 per person is deposit at the time of trip confirmation. You can pay this amount by credit card, via remittance or deposit to our bank account. Rest of the amount is paying on your arrive in Kathmandu Nepal, before heading to Kailash Tour. Paying by cash, by credit card or bank deposit. Paying by credit card charges more 4 %.

Cancellation and refund Policy

Cancel your tour once it is applied for the permit, USD 500 per person cancellation charge.

Cancel in less than 24 hours, cancellation charge is USD 900 per person

If you return from on the way of trip, no any refund. All the extra expenses of person after group splitting have to bear personally.

To be careful during immigration formalities

Do not bring any books or other printed materials related Tibet and monks. Do not even bring prayer flag in your bag. If your mobile gallery have got any pictures about monks and Tibet we suggest you to delete. Your mobile gallery sometime checked by custom officer. Finding pictures of monks and other related Tibet may get more trouble crossing immigration.
