Trek Everest region without any flights
It is possible only by driving. Flight to Lukla, some peoples are scary about it and it is expensive too. There is way to skip any flights of Lukla and trek Everest region without flight. Drive to Sallery/ Phaplu from Kathmandu which takes about 8 hours and start trekking from there. It is 3 days trek to reach Phakding the regular trekking way which reach in first day when you fly to Lukla. This is also an opportunities to explore less touristic Khumbu region and its beauty. Trekking from Phaplu to Everest Base Camp or any other valley inside Everest, is good reason also for acclimatization.

Lukla airport known as Tenzing Hillary airport is on 2,860 miters altitude only one small airport in Khumbu region. As per roadcast on the History Channel in 2010, this airport rated the airport as the most dangerous airport in the world for more than 20 years. Lukla airport is most busy airport during trekking season mostly in autumn and spring which is also climbing and expedition time. Only single runway of Lukla airport is only 527 miter long, 30m wide with an 11.7% gradient. A very small airport is only capacity of 5 twin otter and 2 Helicopter parking area and only one short run way. Flight operating to Lukla only from Kathmandu. It is 22 – 35 minutes flight. Different domestic airlines with their Twin Otter and Dornier are providing flight services.

Heli flight to Lukla from Everest Base camp
When trekkers hike to Everest base camp, they need to return Lukla following same way back which takes another 3 or 4 days. Instead of hiking down more 3 or 4 days, can take a Helicopter ride till Lukla airport and catch regular flight back to Kathmandu. This is way to reduce your Everest Base Camp trek days and make a kind of luxury way. It is about 15 minute’s flight from EBC till Lukla normally at morning time. Reach to EBC and climb Kalapathar is the dream hike for every trekker. If they fly with heli from EBC is another experience to explore beautiful Everest region beside trekking path.
